I was looking at zero quality of life in my opinion, suffering from spinal stenosis, two years down the line I can walk long distances as opposed to 5metres with no pain,I'm even in the gym twice a week, light training. I'm 66,Rodney Laing has saved my life, can't recommend him highly enough.

Rodney Laing recently performed an operation on my lower back to resolve a slipped disc, which was causing me considerable pain and disability. He was very warm and friendly throughout the whole process, which was very reassuring. The surgery that he undertook was a complete success. He released the trapped nerve and I was able to get on my feet a few hours after the surgery. This operation has transformed my life and I now feel able to undertake many things that I used to think I would never be able to do again. I feel great admiration for the remarkable skill of Mr Laing and his humanity, and shall always be deeply grateful to him.

I was under the care of Rodney Laing for an L5 S1 lumbar microdiscectomy. Mr Laing explained the procedure to me perfectly beforehand in my room and reassured me in the anaesthetist area prior to theatre. He talked me through exactly what he had done whilst I was in recovery and the following morning prior to my discharge I had a telephone conversation with him. 10 days later, I had an online meeting with him to discuss my progress and I was given the opportunity to ask any questions that I may have had. I cannot fault the care and attention that I received and I was put at ease throughout the whole process. I was extremely nervous as I had not experienced any type of surgery before and I had never been given an anaesthetic. My recovery time has been remarkable. I cannot thank him enough for all that he has done for me. I have spent the last 12 months being unable to walk any distance, I have experienced severe pain and I have been unable to stand fully upright. I am now back at Sixth Form College, 10 days post surgery and I am finally pain free.

I saw Mr Laing as my NHS Neurosurgical consultant last Thursday. He is a consummate professional and a very kind attentive person too. He is proactive and positive and I am so grateful he accepted me on to his list from out of area. How gratifying it must be to be blessed with such skills and power to heal and give hope. Following two consultations I had very clear and concise information and care. As a result I had no hesitation in proceeding with the surgical option for my lower back.
